Jazz In Education Day

On Saturday 25th October, The Jazz In Education Day welcomed classroom teachers from around the country for a series of workshops and discussions at the Mermaid Theatre in London. Hosted by Jazz Services, the Continuing Professional Development event brought together some of the finest jazz educators in Britain, including 2008 Parliamentary Jazz Educator of the Year award winner Dennis Rollins, former lead jazz consultant to the Associated Board and Professor of Jazz Piano at the Royal College of Music Dr Charles Beale; highly experienced school, higher education and adult jazz educators guitarist Dr Kathy Dyson and pianist Andrea Vicari; international jazz educator Richard Michael. The day culminated in the National Music Council awards to those Local Authorities, who in 2007/8 demonstrated strength and creativity in their provision of jazz education. The Jazz Services Will Michael Diploma was named in honour of respected jazz educator who died earlier this year and was awarded to Devon, the City of Edinburgh, Lincolnshire and West Lothian.
