The scheme, now in its 17th year, offers grants of up to £2,500 to both established and less well known bands. The main criteria to be met for those applying is the confirmation of six or more tour dates in the given time-frame. The financial assistance is intended to encourage bands to tour outside of their own region.

The grants, supported by Arts Council England, are awarded for quarterly periods (January/February/March; April/May/June; July/August/September; and October/November/December), and are selected by a panel of music professionals, including promoters and musicians, and chaired by a Jazz Services board member.
