Norma Winstone, Cleveland Watkiss and John Turville winners at London Jazz Awards 2010

Last night saw Norma Winstone and Cleveland Watkis tied for Best Vocalist award in an innaugural event as part of the London Arts Awards 2010. Pianist John Turville saw off tough competition in the Best Instrumentalist category.

The two victorious singers joined forces on 'Blue Monk' accompanied by the Barry Green Trio in the awards party hosted by Pizza Express, Dean Street while other nominees to perform on the night included Derek Nash, Nia Lynn and Gary Husband.

The awards, organised by Global Music Foundation and sponsored by Cegin Productions, were created in association with the London Festival Fringe (www.londonfestivalfringe.com). Further awards are being given in theatre, comedy and photography, while the New Poetry Award was also presented last night at the Pizza Express - the winner being Carrie Etter for her poem ‘The Tethers’. It is hoped that the Awards will become an annual feature of the London arts calendar.
